General Business License

In accordance with Ordinance #471, all businesses operating in the city of Sterling Heights are now required to obtain an annual Business License with the City Clerk. Once the completed application, registration fee, and required documents are submitted, a business license is issued.

New Business License - For a new business, change of ownership, adding a new location, or if you have not applied for your business license yet. On the payment screen, please enter your business name in the Business ID field.

Annual Renewal - Renewal notices are emailed to all licensed businesses in January. The required Business ID and PIN number are included in the email attachment.

Specialty Licenses

In addition to a business license, the following businesses require a specific license to operate in the city of Sterling Heights. Questions relating to business licenses can be sent to licensing@sterling-heights.net

Liquor License
Liquor License applications are available at the City Clerk's office. For questions regarding the purchase or transfer of a liquor license in the City of Sterling Heights, contact the City Clerk.
