Allison's Affair with the High School Principal

ALLISON'S AFFAIR WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL is a factual account of a public school district's blatant racial discrimination practices in an all white rural community in the midwest. A teacher refuses to supervise a perspective student teacher, telling the principal, "I'm not going to work with any God damn niggers." The principal attempts to rectify the unlawful situation & encounters not only apathy & lack of support, but an aggressive & vindictive attack on his character by the school superintendent & board president. A conspiracy ensues. The black college student is denied from student teaching at the school by the superintendent. The teacher's racist attitude is minimized & his discrimination practices covered up by the school board president & superintendent. The high school principal is fired in retaliation for refusing to accept the school district's racist philosophy. Reviewers in 1992 said, "Concisely written. A soul searching story that should scare the hell out of all of us." "A shocking story. The fired high school principal wins the civil rights & state supreme court rulings, but is not reinstated to his former position. Yet the teacher, whose racist actions were clearly exposed during litigation, continues to teach. Where is the justice? Where is the outrage?" "An outstanding book for teachers, administrators, & school board members. This is a situation that could happen to any of us."
